W. T. Gold

Listen to Obituary

On June 12, 1953, Booker T. Gold and Bernice Coleman, were blessed with a handsome baby boy whom they named W.T. Gold. W.T. spent 72 years of his life on God’s green earth, as one of God’s soldiers; sunrise, June 12, 1953 to sunset, December 17, 2025.

Born and raised on a farm, he worked alongside his brothers and sisters, together learning the value of hard work, responsibility, and loyalty at an early age. Long days working in the fields shaped him into the family man he would become —strong, dependable, and deeply devoted to those around him.

Carrying those values with him, he proudly entered the United States Marine Corps, where he found another kind of family in the brotherhood of Marines. His service was marked by dedication, discipline, and an unwavering sense of duty.

W.T. loved both his farm family and Marine family very much, but he still was not complete until he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Long. From their union, two children were born, a handsome baby boy and a beautiful bouncy girl. Family was truly the most important thing to him when he became a husband and a father. He taught his son how to be a man and what it meant to work hard and succeed in life. He taught his daughter what a good man should do and be, by not only displaying, but also by carrying out all the quality traits of a good man. The love that he had for his wife and their children was impeccable.

After serving his country at home and abroad, he retired and remained a Marine at heart. Shortly thereafter, he was employed with United States Postal Service where he still exemplified strong leadership as a flat sorter operator/supervisor, until retiring January 31, 2013.

In civilian life, W.T. returned to the simple joys he loved—family gatherings, competitive card games, honest work, and time spent reflecting on a life well lived. He was a steady presence, a teacher by example, and a source of strength for those who knew him.

W.T. was not one to complain, even during sickness. He was always a jokester which made others feel comfortable and safe in his presence. He would never allow anything or anyone to bring him down regardless of the situation. Therefore, only his wife knew of his illness until it was later shared with a select number of loved ones. On any given day when in pain, if asked how he felt, he would say he was okay. The Lord finally answered his prayer and called him home after years of trying to prepare his family for what was to come.

He is survived by his family that will forever miss him, and embrace the lessons he lived by: love of family, respect for others and a deep desire to serve with honor. To cherish his memories, wife, Elizabeth Gold, son, Andre’ Gold, daughter, Meniecia Gold, grandchildren: Aniya Gold, Alyssa Gold (both of Clarksville, TN), Justin Gold and Jordan Gold (both of Atlanta, GA), brothers: Jessie Gold (Christine), Roy Gold, Glendale Gold, Timothy Gold, Carter Gold (Carlene) (all of Clarksville, TN), Peter Gold (Julia) (Grand Prairie, TX), God grandsons: Adrion and Javion Polk (Antioch, TN), uncle, Bishop Oscar Coleman, Jr. (Bowling Green, KY), honorable mentioned nieces, Lanita Darby, Denise Barber, Kitana Boyce and Latashia Lyle and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
