Executive and Master Chef Tanya Hancock-Baker, also known as “The Boss/Mibbs” by family and friends, gained her wings and joined the Lord on June 2, 2026. During her time on earth, she graduated from Independence High School in Coal City, WV. She earned certificates and a Bachelors Degree in Culinary Arts, Food Service Management and Hospitality. With love, skill, and hard work she created luxurious foods, sculpted art and drawings for banquets, built lasting friendships, created smiles, was a playmate to her children, enjoyed making everyone laugh and poured love into everyone. She truly was a blessing to everyone and everything she touched.
She was born on October 12, 1963, the seventh of 10 children to the late Martha Ann Dun Crider Thaxton and Charles Ray Hancock. Tanya is preceded in death by her daughter, Ayana Lashawn Baker, parents, sisters: Darlene Hancock, Marina Sue Matthews; brothers: Tom Hancock, Joseph Hancock, Charles Ray Hancock, Jr.; mother-in-law, Very A. Gray; sisters-in-law, Diane Wade, Mozell Hamby, Ruth Mizell, Nadia Wade and Sheila Wade; brother-in-law, William Trammel; nephew, Maurice and niece, Nadia.
Tanya leaves cherished memories and good times with her husband and love: Jessie M. Baker (since 1984); daughter, Maya Baker-Miller; son-in-law, Ernest Miller, Jr.; sisters: Martha Trammell and Otealia Crider; brothers: David (Evelyn) Hancock, James Crider and MKrumah (Shendrisha) Hancock; nieces and nephews: Consuela Bradford, Martha Williams, Angela Williams, John Williams, Angela (Jermaine) Patterson, Roger Evans, Little James, Jr., Bridget Moore, Kareem Hancock, Kameko Hancock, Ava Matthews, Todd Matthews, Cynthia, Fatima and many more; multiple aunts and uncles; sister-in-law, Jackie West; brother-in-law, Lonnie Hughes;best friends: Annette Austin, Judi Debow, Marty Dorman (Richard) Haley; goddaughter, Tracie Dennard; like daughters to the family: Alicia Miller, Jamila (Owusu) Boateng, Heather (Jerell) Hinton; like sons to the family: Derek (Ja’lyce) Miller, George Hunter, Jr., Vondell Richmond, Duane (Ashley) Meeks; close to the family: Bishop Joseph (Mildred) Boone, Elder Tony (Annias) DeJesus, Olinda (George, Sr.) Hunter, Jamira (Tyrone) Boone, Temple of Truth family and many others, including the wonderful healthcare workers and physicians who cared for this wonderful soul.
