Elvin Christian Joseph, son to Christian Joseph and Ina Walcott, began his earthly journey on Sunday, February 6, 1944 in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. His wife, Latasi Aitu Joseph; son, Elvin C. Joseph, Jr.; parents; sisters: Marjorie Esanderson, Florice Edwards and brother, Glenwood Joseph preceded him in death.
Elvin was educated in the St. Croix, Virgin Islands School System and was a graduate of Christiansted High School, Class of 1962. He enlisted in the US Army and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class before retiring after more than 20 years of dedicated service. In 1985, he was certified from Austin Peay State University as a Construction Technician. He united in holy matrimony with Latasi Aitu on December 18, 1967 and this union was blessed with eight children.
Affectionately known as “Joe”, he was a devoted family man, a loving husband, and an all-around great dad. He was a strong, steady presence, protective, always dependable, and deeply committed to those he loved. He had a big heart and bigger sense of humor. He loved to laugh and knew how to bring joy to those around him, often with a quick wit or well-timed joke that could light up the room. When his children were younger, he used to walk on his hands & raced teens in the street and outran them, he ran fast even one time he had on his combat boots and ran backwards beating those young athletic teens on Fort Campbell. His nickname growing up in the Virgin Islands was "Ellie" but here in the States they called him "Joe" or "Cool Joe". He never met a stranger. People loved him, his jokes and affectious smile
He was a true music lover and especially enjoyed music of the ‘60s. He enjoyed working on cars, BBQing, fishing, watching sports and especially cheering on his favorite team the “Pittsburgh Steelers”. He also loved watching track and field and taking road trips with his family.
On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Elvin departed this life to be with the Lord.
He leaves to cherish precious memories his daughters: Annette (Antonio) Joseph-Hillman, Clarksville, TN, Dorothy Joseph, Hopewell, VA, Chris (Terry) Joseph-Smith, Jonesboro, GA, Shirley Joseph, Santa Clara, CA and Latasi Allison, Clarksville, TN; sons: Eddie Joseph, San Jacinto, CA, Michael Joseph, Clarksville, TN; sister, Veronica Joseph, St. Croix, US Virgin Islands; brothers: Lorne Joseph, Voorheesville, NY, Cecil Joseph, Lionell Joseph, both of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands and Cyril Joseph, Union City, GA; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
