Roosevelt, the son of loving parents, Roosevelt Horton and Alice Smith Horton, began his earthly journey on Thursday, December 29, 1955 in Newark, New Jersey. His parents and four brothers: Ronnie Horton, Russell Horton, Raymund Horton and Randy Horton preceded him in death.

He received his formal education in the public schools of New Jersey. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army, attained the rank of Staff Sergeant/E6 and served for 15 ½ years. He also enjoyed employment with Hunt Transportation as a long-haul truck driver before retiring in September 2023 after many years of dedicated service.

Roosevelt united in holy matrimony with the love of his life, Dawn Magnus on Friday, September 5, 1986. This union was blessed with four children.

Affectionately known as “James” to loved ones, he was a devoted family man who cherished time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and bowling, always bringing laughter and wisdom to those around him. He loved a good story, and he knew plenty. He was the life of all parties. He approached every challenge with a gentle spirit and a resilient heart, leaving a legacy of kindness and strength that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Roosevelt departed this life on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.

He leaves to cherish precious memories a loving wife, Dawn M. Horton; daughters: To’Afa Horton, Clarksville, TN, Selenna Horton, Atlanta, GA; sons: Sharabian Horton and Marlin Horton, both of Clarksville, TN; 10 grandchildren: Shanel Cooper, Tavon Horton, TJ Ferrell, Abigail Gibeau, Isabelle Horton, Hayden Horton, Gabriel Lapage, Syliss Horton, Alexander Horton and Aeris Horton; one great-grandchild, Ma’Naia Horton; sisters: Laverne Horton, RyLanza Coke and Ronisha Horton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
