Richard Odell Scott, Jr., began his earthly journey on Thursday, September 27, 1951, the second of six sons born to the union of Bertha Clardy Scott and the late Richard Odell Scott, Sr., in Clarksville, Tennessee. In addition to his father, his wife, Donna Ewing Scott; brother, Richard Henson; maternal grandparents: Willie and Annie Clardy; paternal grandparents: George Davie Scott, Sr., and Beatrice Scott; aunts: Geneva Woods, Wanda Clardy, Francis Quarles, Willie Bell, Pat Cross, Emma Johnson; uncles: Harry Clardy, Russell Clardy and George David Scott, Jr., preceded him in death.
He gave his life to Christ at the early age of 13. In 1985 he was called into the ministry to preach the word and was ordained in 1986. In 1987, he faithfully served as pastor at Big Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Pembroke, Kentucky until September 1995. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Bible Theology, with minors in church vocation and pastoral studies from the American Baptist Theological Seminary College in Nashville, Tennessee. In December 2003, he was called to pastor at Boiling Springs Missionary Baptist Church faithfully serving until December 20, 2003. He founded Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in 2004 and served as pastor until his retirement in 2025.
Richard, Jr., attended the public schools of Montgomery County and was a graduate of the Historic Burt High School Class of 1970 the last official class before the school’s closing. He also enjoyed employment with Trane Technologies and retired after 37 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed membership in Omega Phi Society, was an honorary Order of Kentucky, the Cumberland River, South Kentucky, Middle Tennessee Baptist District Association and the Progressive National Baptist Convention.
On February 1, 1974, Richard, Jr., united in holy matrimony with Donna Ewing and this union was blessed with two daughters.
Richard, Jr., loved spending time with family and friends. He was a man of few words; a present and devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, planting, gardening, raising tobacco and fishing. All who knew and loved him will sorely miss his presence.
On Sunday, July 12, 2026, Richard, Jr., answered God’s beckoning call to cease from his earthly labors and entered into the Master’s joy.
He leaves precious memories to be cherished and shared by his mother, Bertha Clardy Scott; daughters: Veronica R. (Jason) Hutchison and Shamika C. (Earl) Corbin; four grandchildren: Cinbrea, Jeffrey, Jr., Donnay and Donovan; brothers: Roland (Jackie) Scott, Mitchell (Patricia) Scott, Allen Scott, Bert Scott and Marcus (Tonya) Scott, all of Clarksville, TN; devoted friends: R.C. Leavelle, Kelvin Alford and Lawrence Godfrey; special friend, Mrs. Patricia Hagewood and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
