Pastor Frank Hargrow

July 22, 1935 — October 13, 2022

Pastor Frank H. Hargrow, 87, went home to glory on October 13, 2022, at his home in Clarksville, Tennessee.  Frank Hargrow was born July 22, 1935, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to the late Lucy (Westray) Fennell and Rev. Elijah Hargrow. Viewing Friday, October 21, 2022 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. with the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Foston Memorial Chapel.

Pastor Hargrow is preceded in death by, his wife, Virginia L. (Griffin) Hargrow,  parents, and his brother, Jacoby Fennell.  He is survived by his children Christopher Hargrow, Craig Hargrow, Cynthia (Hargrow) Lightner, Kim (Hargrow) King, Lynn Hargrow Sr., and their families. 

Frank Hargrow graduated from Carver Vocational & Technical High School, Baltimore, Maryland, in 1955.  He earned a bachelor's degree from American Baptist College in 1987.  He enlisted in the Army in 1955, at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, in the Military Police Corps, and later changed his military occupational specialty to the Infantry.  He served for 27 years at numerous U.S. and overseas assignments, including France, Japan, the Philippines, Australia, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Kentucky.  He was an instructor at the U.S. Army Basic Airborne Course and Jumpmaster School.  He was also an instructor at U.S Army Ranger School (Florida Phase).  He served several combat tours in Vietnam, and he served in numerous leadership assignments ranging from Squad Leader to First Sergeant.  He earned numerous awards and decorations, including the coveted Ranger Tab, Senior Parachute Badge, Purple Heart (for injuries sustained in Vietnam), Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, three Bronze Stars, one awarded with valor, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Australian Jump Wings, British Jump Wings, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and more.  He was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Vietnam.  First Sergeant Hargrow culminated his active-duty military career in 1980, serving as the 1SG of Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. 

First Sergeant Hargrow taught Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) at Shaw High School, East Cleveland, Ohio, and at Page High School, Franklin, Tennessee for 14 years.

Pastor Hargrow worked in the service of the Lord, serving at his home church, Concord Missionary Baptist Church as a deacon and as Pastor of the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church for 28 years, and served Springhill faithfully as Pastor, taking excellent care of its members.  He also served as the Treasurer for the Cumberland River South Kentucky Middle Tennessee Baptist District Association for 29 years and served on various boards, committees, and Christian education forums.

Pastor Hargrow was dedicated to serving the Lord and lived a rich and full life.  He loved to dance with his wife (Grif), enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and trips to Florida.  He loved family and friends and among the many things he leaves behind, Frank Hargrow’s legacy is full of examples of candor, strength, courage, commitment, and faith beyond measure.
