Otis Benjamin, son to Benjamin Otis Figgins and Dennie Odessa Evans Figgins, was born on Monday, February 17, 1947 in Alexandria, Virginia. His parents preceded him in death.
He professed his love for Christ at an early age and in later years united with Greater Missionary Baptist Church faithfully serving as a member of the Deacon Board, Mass Choir and Nursing Home Ministry. His favorite scripture was Psalm 23.
Otis received his formal education in the Virginia Public School System and was a graduate of T.C. Williams High School, Class of 1965. He enlisted in the US Army, earned the rank of Staff Sergeant/E6 before retiring after 24 years of dedicated service. After retiring from the military, he was employed with Dyn Corps International as a Black Hawk helicopter repairman. He enjoyed membership as a Mason.
On Thursday, June 26, 1969, he united in holy matrimony with Joyce West and this union was blessed with three children.
Otis was a wonderful husband and a doting father who was known for his unwavering commitment to his family and community, always extending a helping hand to those in need. His wisdom, gentle spirit, and warm smile touched the lives of many, leaving a legacy of kindness and integrity. He enjoyed listening to music and singing. All who knew and loved him will sorely miss his presence and smiling face.
On Thursday, January 8, 2026, Otis answered God’s beckoning call to cease from his earthly labors and entered the Master’s joy!
He leaves to cherish precious memories his devoted wife of 56 ½ years, Joyce E. Figgins; daughters: Maria Q. Figgins, Clarksville, TN and Angelita Figgins; son, Sylintheus A.
