Ira W. Quarles. Sr., was born on October 20, 1938 in Guthrie, Kentucky to J.B. Quarles and Ruth Merriweather Quarles. His daughter, Pamela Satterthwaite, grandchild, Andre Christian, parents and brother, James Lewis Quarles preceded him in death.
Ira gave his life to Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was a faithful and dedicated member until his health prohibited his attending service. He served as a Trustee of the church and a member of the Male Chorus.
Ira received his education in the Guthrie, Kentucky Public School System.
On June 28, 1958, he was united in matrimony with Jenice Suggs. They shared 66 years of marriage.
He enjoyed spending time watching western movies and during his early years of life, he enjoyed bowling, skating, playing baseball with the Clarksville Negro League Rockets and a member of General Q Boyd Elks Lodge.
Ira was employed at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company and Quebecor Printing Company as an 18-wheeler truck driver. Later he was employed with Cumberland Bank and Trust until his health declined.
He leaves a legacy of memories his wife, Jenice Quarles; daughters: Beverly (Bobby) Quarles Bell and Debra Quarles; sons: Ira Quarles, Jr. and Vincent (Dee) Quarles, all of Clarksville, TN; brother, Sandy (Lillie) Quarles, Kokomo, IN; grandchildren: Kenedra Bell-Towns, Bobby Bell, II, Te’Andre Bell, Kieran Quarles, Amari Quarles, Nevaeh Quarles, Jasmine Johnson, Ralph Satterthwaithe, Jr., Peyton Satterthwaithe, Kayden Satterthwaithe, Jumaane Satterthwaithe and Sophia; great-grandchildren: Jhuwon Davis, Johnaya Davis, Jayden Johnson and Saddig Bell; sisters-in-law: Mary Alice Quarles, Anita Jelks, Joyce Chestnut, Grace Hutchinson and Rev. Imogene Bryant and a host of relatives and friends.
