Mother Marjorie Quarles

Mother Marjorie Mae Quarles entered into life on Monday, June 6, 1932, to proud parents Bill Roach and Lillian U. Oldham Moss Roach. She left this earthly life on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at the wonderful age of 92. Her husband, Walter Quarles; a son, James E. Quarles; both parents; all 13 of her siblings and one son-in-law, Roger L. Matthews preceded her in death.

Marjorie joined the Boiling Springs Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized in Spring Creek at an early age. She was an active member in the choir up until the age of 72. After moving her membership to Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, she joined the Mother’s Board and Missionary Ministry and stayed faithful until her demise. Raised in the Ringgold area and educated in Montgomery County, she attended the Historic Burt High School. Introduced to a family friend, Walter Quarles, God blessed their union with eight children. A homemaker by trade, Marjorie aided her husband in operating his restaurant for many years. Some of Marjorie’s hobbies were fishing, cooking, gardening and canning. She also LOVED dancing, traveling and being independent. She could grow just about anything she planted in the ground. Known for cooking turnip greens by many, she was known for specializing in her grandchildren favorite dishes when they were growing up. One in particular, pickled watermelon rinds. Marjorie had a positive impact on whomever she met. Her smile, conversation and advice was sweet and unmatched. She was talkative and had a great sense of humor. When she entered a room it lit up with overflowing sunshine. Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters: Mary Ann Matthews, Nashville, TN, Rosie Bell (Michael) Banks, Fayetteville, NC and Jannie Mae Hargrove, Clarksville, TN; her three sons: Walter Quarles, Jr., Anthony D. Quarles, both of Clarksville, TN and Lee A. (Tara) Quarles, Lexington, SC; nine grandchildren: LaToya, Walter (Melissa) III, Roger II, Rinaud, Antiqua, Reana, Jade, DeMarcus, Leighara ; 12 great-grandchildren with one on the way and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
