Listen to Obituary

Mary Rose Ramey was born August 19, 1941, to the late Maryland Sr. and Effie G. Bell in Charlotte, Tennessee. She passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, in Clarksville, Tennessee, surrounded by her loved ones. Mary was truly a mother to all. She had a heart overflowing with love and faith, and her life was a living example of devotion to God. She was the rock and foundation of her family, the one everyone could turn to for guidance, comfort, and unconditional love. Mary married Warner Ramey on June 18, 1966, the love of her life, who preceded her in death. Their partnership and devotion were a shining example of enduring love. Mary was the home for all—especially during the holidays. Her house was where everyone gathered, where meals were shared, laughter rang out, and memories were made. She created traditions that brought the family together year after year, filling her home with warmth, joy, and the sweet aroma of her cooking. Mary’s famous dressing was a holiday favorite, and family and friends would always look forward to gathering around her table to savor it. For many, the holidays will forever be remembered as time spent around Mary’s table, with her singing and laughter weaving through every moment. Her love for God was evident not only in how she lived but also in how she worshiped. Mary was a faithful and devoted member of Mt. Zion AME Church, where she loved singing hymns—her favorite being “I Am Bound for Mt. Zion.” She also served faithfully in the Community Center Club and was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star. The refrain of her beloved hymn—“I’m bound for Mount Zion way out on the hill… if anybody makes it, surely I will”—was more than a song to her; it was her testimony. Today, her family rejoices in knowing that Mary’s life of faith has been fulfilled, and surely she did make it to Heaven. Mary is survived by a devoted son and daughter, Julian Ramey (Tracy) and Camille Ramey; grandsons Jarrett Ramey, Jalen Ramey, Jeremiah Ramey; granddaughters Jessica Ramey, Camryn Ramey; great-grandchildren Jackson Ramey and Jariah Ramey; and a host of bonus great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Maryland Bell Jr (Connie); her sister, Patsy Spicer (George); and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, Jim Bell, Emmitt Bell, Charlie Bell, and Harold Bell; and her sisters, Betty Collier, Irene Bell, and Imogene Hollingsworth. A celebration of her life will be held on September 6, 2025, at Foston's Memorial Chapel in Clarksville, Tennessee. Friends and family are invited to attend and honor her memory. Mary’s love, faith, and the spirit of family she created will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
