Lucille Copeland was the first-born of Charles Copeland and Ira Ellison Copeland in Huntsville, Alabama.

She was a 1956 graduate of Councill Training and furthered her education obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Early Education from Alabama A&M University, Master of Education from Tennessee State University and 45 hours Post Grad from Austin Peay State University.

At an early age, Lucille accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and united with Madkin Chapel C.P. Church in Huntsville, AL. Later in her adult life she became one of the founding members of Greater St. James Baptist Church under the pastorage of Reverend James O. Brigham where she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, Deaconess, a member of the Mothers Board, Church Historian, Greeters Committee and Choir member.

On June 29, 1958 she entered into holy matrimony with Joe F. Jones and to this union three children were born. She was a retired educator for the Montgomery County School System, dedicating a total of 31 years teaching at Bailey-Cobb, Moore, and Ringgold Elementary Schools. She enjoyed membership in the Professional Study Club; TSU Alumni, Alabama A&M Alumni; Phi Beta Kappa; Retired Teachers Association; NEA; Golden Girls and Bosom Buddies (Breast Cancer Support Group). She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Beta Rho Omega Chapter, Hopkinsville, KY, (1976-1980); Charter member of Nu Kappa Omega Chapter, Clarksville, TN (1980-present). In May 2026 she was honored as a Golden Soror with 50 years of service and life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®.

She was predeceased by husband, Joe, parents, brother, Johnny E. Copeland, sister-in-law, Evalena and brother-in-law, Enrique.

Lucille leaves to cherish precious memories her children: Braun P. Jones, Juan P. Jones, Andrea (Paul) Jones-Kukawski; grandchildren: Onrea (Laura), TeKia, DaJona (Quo), Devon (Megan), DeJuan (Jade); great-grandchildren: Janiya, Jasmine, Abrielle, Jenesis, Jaida, Tyson, Kyle, Kason, Zeke, and Lucy. Godchildren: Cheret and Chester Collins, III; sister Doris J. Copeland-Carbo; brother, Lloyd A. (Direan) Copeland; family friends, Chester and Delores Collins, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
