I was honored and fortunate to be in the same unit at 4/187 Infantry as a young private when he was the CSM of our battalion. So many memories of his coming into the PAC and shooting the breeze with S1 staff. He gave me the nickname "Alpo" and always asked me what I ate at the mess hall or if I knew what type of helicopter was flying above us. He had the best sense of humor. Best of all, the BEST Command Sergeant Major I ever served under.

I just saw this and I am so sorry for the loss of a great man! RIP CSM....our time together protecting the FRB will never be forgotten. Your dedication and willingness to serve is beyond measure. You will be greatly missed. Prayers to family and friends and may his memory live on. There will never be a laugh or voice that can compare.....even while squeezing into his little Ford Aspire. Carry on, CSM

I just saw this and it saddens me. He was a great guy and I always enjoyed running PT when he called cadence. RIP CSM Hatcher.

CSM Hatcher was the very best a superb 1SG and CSM. Served with him in D/1-502 and he had major impact on my career as an infantry officer. The Hammer will be missed by many former soldiers of all ranks. The passing of CSM Hatcher is the passing of an era. God bless him and God rest his soul. A true friend and comrade l will never forget.

Words cannot begin to describe the sadness I feel like the loss of my mentor. \"Top\" Hatcher was the most amazing man and soldier. I served with him with CSC 1/502nd Infantry, 101st Airborne (Air Assault). There is not enough room here for me to list all of the things he taught me which helped me throughout the years. I will miss you and our conversations \"Top\". First Strike!
