Leonard Haynes James blessed this world with his presence on April 29, 1957 to Lillie Mae Haynes and Charlie Haynes, Jr. in Clarksville TN. During his childhood, he experienced an abundance of opportunities. From childhood sickness to being relocated to another country, his childhood was extraordinary. His relocation not only included moving to Germany with his aunt, Laura (Cine) and her husband, Willie James, but also having to be adopted by them in order to make this move. Leonard truly lived an unorthodox childhood, but God knew what He was doing when He shook up some things in Leonard's life. Leonard was beyond blessed to be able to call two very special women (who were biological sisters) his mothers.
At an early age, Leonard, was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J.F. Cunningham.
Leonard received his primary education in Clarksville, TN, in Germany, and in other military stations. He earned Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Engineering from Vanderbilt University; a Master of Business Administration in Health Care Management from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania; a Doctor of Medicine from Tufts University School of Medicine and from New York University School of Professional Studies he earned a Postgraduate Certificate in Investment Banking.
Leonard also served his country as a Captain in the United States Air Force.
During his career, Leonard worked at several Pharmaceutical Companies in several capacities. His job titles include Director, Senior Director, Consultant and Development Manager, all pertaining to drug safety. While in the Air Force, he also served as a staff physician. In his last position, he served as Senior Director of Medical Safety at Jazz Pharmaceuticals.
Although he had no biological children of his own, he took on a "father-like" role in the lives of many of his loved ones. Leonard enjoyed the finer things of life in the simplest way. He made sure that his family indulged in the pleasures that he had grown accustomed to. All the while he sat back, relaxed and enjoyed watching as they too dabbled in his pleasures. He is and will always be our Hero!
On September 18, 2024, Leonard Haynes James, MD, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior. He was preceded in death by his parents. His memory is left to be celebrated by: Sister: Maxine Jones, Brothers: Charles E. Haynes, James T. Haynes, George T. Haynes (Yvonne), Randy E. Haynes and a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins and special and life-long friends.
