George Thomas, (GT) Jr., the eldest of twin sons born on Friday, August 28, 1942 to George Thomas Clardy, Sr., and Vivian Odelya “Odie” Cheatham Clardy in Clarksville, Tennessee. His parents, twin brother, Dr. John Thomas (JT) Clardy, MD; sisters: Rachel Clardy Andrews, Darlene Clardy and Barbara Purviance; nephews: Arthur Dewayne Wilson, Howard Gentry; nieces: Beverly Wilson and Bonnie Andrews preceded him in death.
“GT” was educated in the Montgomery County School System and he was a graduate of the Historic Burt High School with the Class of 1960. In 1964, he graduated from Austin Peay State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. While attending Austin Peay, he was selected “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.” He enrolled and attended Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and graduated in 1974 with a Doctor of Medicine Degree. He interned at Harlem Hospital in New York City and did his residency at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, MI. He was co-owner of Eighth Street Medical Clinic and retired in 2018 after providing many years of dedicated medical care to his many patients. He was awarded a Proclamation from the City of Clarksville as an “Unsung Hero” in 2022 for his contributions to the community as a physician.
He was married twice, first to Vivian (Scott) Clardy and second, Ginger (Rogers) Clardy and these unions were blessed with three sons.
Dr. Clardy had a biting sense of humor, was full of homespun wisdom, possessed a colorful language, and did not appreciate laziness, slacking or excuses as he had a strong work ethic. He enjoyed wine tasting, hunting, following the Stock Market, watching television Westerns and Sports and fine dining.
On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, Dr. Clardy departed this life to be with the Lord.
Precious memories are left to be cherished by his sons: Rodney Irvin (Julie) Clardy, Nashville, TN, Dr. Brian K. (Shelia) Clardy, Ph.D., Murray, KY and George Thomas Clardy, III, Gary, IN; sister, Myrna Cooper, Detroit, MI; five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a whole host of family and friends.
Viewing Thursday, June 26, 2025, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Foston Funeral Home with Homegoing Celebration at 1:oo, p.m. at Foston Funeral Home. Interment Resthaven Memorial Garden.
