Listen to Obituary

Davetta “Dee” Glorialene Cawthon was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 15, 2026. Dee was 71 when she had the privilege of meeting God. She left this Earth after a short illness, wrapped in the love of her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Born May 2, 1954, in Cleveland, Ohio, into a faithful and devoted family, she was the youngest daughter of a preacher and served her Lord Almighty until her final breath. The handprints of the Lord can be seen in the way she lived her life. Dee led with a steadfast and unwavering love that enveloped those she kept close. She was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church for over three decades, where she sang joyously in the choir and participated loyally in Bible study. Beyond the church pews, Dee found solace in caring for her plants; she possessed a God-given talent for nurturing life, ensuring that anything she touched flourished and grew.

Her memory and legacy will endure in the hearts, minds, and spirits of the family that survives her: her husband of 54 years, Larry Cawthon; her children, Nikki Cawthon, Trina Cawthon, and Christopher Cawthon and his wife Audrey Cawthon; David Dowell and Evette Dowell, whom she held dear and helped nurture in their youth; her beloved grandchildren: Jazmyn Simms, Alexis Simms, Zhana Fletcher, Lykai Cawthon, Camden Cawthon, D’Zhae Outlaw, Xzavier Simms, and Israel Mullen; and her extended family and friends.

In heaven, she will be reunited with her sorely missed loved ones who preceded her in death: her parents, Kenneth David Wilkins and Elsie Mae Wilkins; and her siblings, Fannie Baker and Janice Wilkins.
