Crystal Ligon

Listen to Obituary

Crystal Elaine started her earthly journey in Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee on Saturday, December 11, 1971, daughter to Evelyn Christian Jackson and Harry Galbreath. Her daughter, Tara “Shirelle” Ligon; brother, Harry Kirk Galbreath; grandmother, Mahalia Ann Northington Christian; aunt, Hazel J. Hardy; uncles: Edward Christian, Jr., Elder Raymond W. Dent and brother-in-law, Gary Mosley preceded her in death.

Crystal loved the Lord and accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age under the leadership of the late Pastor Wilton Williams, at Edgefield Baptist Church where faithfully served on the Usher Board, singing in the choir, as Superintendent of the Sunday School Department and a member of the Culinary Staff. In 2023 Crystal united with the St. Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served as the Youth Advisor.

She received her formal education through the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System and was a graduate of Clarksville High School with the Class of 1991. She furthered her education and became a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). She had a nurturing spirit and thoroughly enjoyed caring for and helping to rehabilitate her patients. Throughout her lifetime she enjoyed employment with Captain D’s, Spring Meadows Nursing Home and Consumer Direct as a Caregiver. She volunteered at the Ajax Turner Senior Citizen Center calling bingo, and any other tasks she was asked to do, with her client Tyler Bates, along for the ride.

On Saturday, October 3, 2009, Crystal united in holy matrimony with the Rev. Thomas A. Ligon, Jr., and they became a blended family with eight children.

A devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, niece, cousin and friend, she had joy, a welcoming smile and loved the time she had in the presence of loved ones. She enjoyed cooking, planning events, decorating, entertaining, shopping and traveling with her “Sister Circle”: Toya, Tracy and Dana. As an avid reader she was a member of the “Women of Color Book Club”. All who knew and loved her will sorely miss her beautiful smile and presence.

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, Crystal answered God’s beckoning call to cease from her earthly labors and entered into the Master’s loving arms.

She leaves a legacy of love and precious memories to be cherished and shared by her husband of 16 years, Rev. Thomas A. Ligon, Jr.; her sons: Lathaniel D. (Benita) Walker, Tyrone D. McKeage, Michael Ligon and Carl Ligon; daughters: Merissa (Alphonse) Gatlin, Tiffany Ligon and Kim Ligon; mother, Evelyn Christian Jackson; father, Harry (Liz) Galbreath; brother, Rev. Edmond T. (Monique) Jackson; sisters: Leigh T. (Rev. Edward E.) Lucas and Angela Galbreath- (Stevenson V.) Hudson; 13 grandchildren; uncle, Elwyn Christian; aunts: Gale E. Dent, Veronica A. Broomfield, Linda L. (William) Rudolph and Bridget E. Johnson; sisters-in-law: Jan (Bobby) Smallwood and Vivian Mosley; brothers-in-law: Dudley (Delphia) Ligon, Claude (Lilia) Ligon, Andrew (Janice) Ligon, Lonnie Ligon and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
